The Dang Story: Authentic Thai Flavors Brought to the US

Vincent Kitirattragarn, a native New Yorker, grew up immersed in the diverse array of Thai foods during his family visits to Thailand every summer. As he entered adulthood, he realized that the only Thai dishes readily available in the US were basic ones like Pad Thai, mango sticky rice, and Thai iced tea. Determined to bring more authentic Thai food to the US, Vincent decided to start a pop-up restaurant in NYC.

Mama Dang's Coconut Chip Recipe: The Inspiration Behind Dang

Vincent's mom, affectionately known as "Mama Dang," shared her recipe for Thai lettuce wraps that called for toasted coconut. Unable to find any store-bought toasted coconut that truly replicated the flavor he needed, Vincent began making his own. He shaved thick strips of fresh coconut meat and lightly toasted them, creating a satisfying flavor and crunch that captivated his roommates. This moment of inspiration led Vincent to start a snack food company, which he named "Dang" after his mom.

Two Brothers: Bringing Asian-American Snacks to the Forefront

Vincent's brother, Andrew, later joined the Dang team. Together, they have used their Thai-American heritage to create a line of Asian-American snacks with a focus on better-for-you options made with plant-based, all-natural ingredients.
